Working for Iowa Soldiers

The men and women of our armed services courageously answer the call of duty to help preserve and protect the freedoms we hold dear. The members of the military and their families sacrifice a lot to keep our homeland safe. While we can never thank them enough for their service to our country, it’s our responsibility to make sure they’re appropriately compensated for their patriotic service.

So I’m working with several other members of Congress in an effort to push the House and Senate Armed Services Committee members to retroactively provide Post Deployment/Mobilization Respite Absence benefits.  Around 850 members of the Iowa National Guard did not receive leave because of a delay between the Department of Defense’s announcement of the program and the implementation of the program by the individual branches of the military. A fix that I and others proposed was included in both the Senate and House Department of Defense Authorization Bills.  I sent a letter to the chairmen and ranking members of both the House and Senate committees to keep the pressure on them to appropriately compensate all of those who fell through this bureaucratic crack.  It’s a simple fix for the men and women who rightly deserve the benefits and it’s the least we can do for those selflessly serve our country.
