Senator Grassley will participate in a Mother’s Day card signing event sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. The national association helps provide more than one million meals to seniors in need each day. The association’s work involves between 800,000 and 1.7 million volunteers.

Senator Grassley will receive the President’s Award from the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology – CAST. The honor recognizes individuals who have furthered the cause of agriculture, science and technology. CAST was founded in Ames, in 1972, by leaders from professional agriculture-related scientific societies to provide information to decision makers in government, the media and the public. Today, it is an international organization.

Senator Grassley will receive an award from the American Conservative Union for votes on issues of interest to grass roots conservatives during the first session of the current Congress.

Senator Grassley will participate in an executive business meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The nominations of David Medine to be chairman and a member of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, and James Xavier Dempsey, Elisebeth Collins Cook, Rachel L. Brand and Patricia M. Wald to be a members of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board may be considered. The Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 2012 sponsored by Senator Patrick Leahy and the Officer Safety Act of 2012 (S.2276) sponsored by Senators Grassley, Coons, Coburn, Sessions and Feinstein also may be considered. The Officer Safety Act would give federal law enforcement agents an opportunity to have their case heard in federal court when they are indicted in state court for intervening to stop a violent act while off-duty.

Senator Grassley will welcome the National Heart Gallery Exhibit to Valley West Mall in West Des Moines. This exhibit is a traveling photography exhibit featuring portraits of children waiting to be adopted from foster care in nearly every state. Senator Grassley is co-founder of the U.S. Senate Caucus on Foster Youth and a sponsor of legislation that has increased the number of adoptions from foster care. Today, approximately 408,000 children are in foster care in the United States. The Heart Gallery Exhibit is sponsored by Iowa KidsNet.
