WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley has asked the Wounded Warrior Project for a detailed account of its spending amid news reports that the organization spent money excessively on priorities other than serving veterans.

“If true, these allegations are a breach of faith with donors, taxpayers, and, more importantly, veterans,” Grassley wrote to the chairman of the organization.  “Significant questions remain as to whether or not WWP is properly performing its side of the bargain for veterans and taxpayers alike.”

Grassley has an extensive record of seeking transparency and accountability from tax-exempt groups in exchange for their significant tax breaks. He has sought information from organizations including the Nature Conservancy, the American Red Cross and tax-exempt hospitals.  Grassley is chairman of the Judiciary Committee.  He is a senior member and former chairman of the Finance Committee, with exclusive jurisdiction over tax policy.

Grassley’s letter to the Wounded Warrior Project is available here.
