$46.6 Million to Iowa from the Department of Housing and Urban Development


  

WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley today said that cities across Iowa will receive $46,624,805 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding comes from the 2009 Recovery Act Community Development Block Grant Formula, the Recovery Act of 2009 Homeless Prevention Fund Formula, and the 2009 Recovery Act Tax Credit Assistance Program.

 

"Building strong communities is vital to improving the quality of life in Iowa and making our state an attractive option for future generations," Grassley said. "This funding will help cities across Iowa provide affordable housing and economic growth opportunities for low- and moderate-income families."

 

The Community Development Block Grant program promotes the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment.  This program also aims to expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income households.

v  Ames-$130,258

v  Cedar Falls- $82,999

v  Cedar Rapids- $350,616

v  Council Bluffs- $285,520

v  Davenport- $465,206

v  Des Moines- $1,152,886

v  Dubuque- $328,269

v  Iowa City- $176,785

v  Sioux City- $509,481

v  Waterloo- $373,140

v  West Des Moines- $62,550

 

The Homelessness Prevention Grant Program will provide financial and other assistance to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.

 

Below is the allocation of funding:

v  State of Iowa- $11,866,889

v  Cedar Rapids- $536,843

v  Davenport- $711,923

v  Des Moines- $1,763,874

v  Dubuque- $502,294

v  Sioux City- $779,497

v  Waterloo- $570,881

 

The Iowa Finance Authority will receive $18,978,542 through the 2009 Recovery Act Tax Credit Assistance Program. These funds will be distributed competitively and according to the allocation plan to low income housing tax credit projects.
