$564,075 to Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge from the U.S. Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has awarded a $564,075 competitive grant to the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City through the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks Program.

The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will use the funds to help complete the Plainsman Bicycle/Pedestrian Trail.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
