WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded competitive grants totaling $57,944 to Iowa through the Community Facilities Grant Program.
"These funds will help these rural communities purchase important emergency equipment and make necessary facility improvements to provide the best possible safety for their residents," Grassley said.
The Office of Rural Development will distribute the money as shown below.
· Barnes City will receive $12,469 to help purchase and install an emergency generator and an outdoor warning siren. Mahaska County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
· Deep River Volunteer Fire Department in Deep River will receive $24,000 to help purchase a new fire truck. Poweshiek County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
· Seymour will receive $15,750 to help purchase a portable emergency generator. Wayne County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
· Wheatland will receive $5,725 to help purchase an outdoor warning siren. Clinton County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
The Community Facility Grant program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.
