WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded competitive grants totaling $61,048 to Iowa through the Community Facilities Grant Program.
"These funds will help these rural communities purchase important equipment and make necessary facility improvements to provide the best possible safety for their residents," Grassley said.
The Office of Rural Development will distribute the money as shown below.
· Cantril will receive $10,300 to help purchase and install an emergency warning siren. Cantril was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
· Franklin County will receive $25,715 to help purchase and install warning sirens in six communities that can be remotely activated. Franklin County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
· Kid's World in Sac City will receive $1,400 to help purchase childcare equipment for the inside dramatic play area that should enhance the children's social and emotional development through play.
· Larrabee will receive $6,000 to help purchase and install a new emergency siren, early warning system, and other emergency equipment. Larrabee was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
· Larrabee will receive $3,675 to help purchase a standby generator and other equipment for an emergency shelter. Larrabee was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.
· Steamboat Rock will receive $13,958 to help purchase turnout gear, a generator set, a light tower and other related fire equipment. Steamboat Rock was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
The Community Facility Grant program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.
