WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has awarded an $84,945 grant to the Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Agency.
The Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Agency will use the funds to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice system and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.
“Identification of at-risk teens should help reduce future crimes and save lives,” Grassley said.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
