Budget Committee To Hold Hearing On Grassley Children's Health Bill

Hearing: Senate Budget Committee oversight hearing of the Family Opportunity Act of 2000 (S. 2274)

Date/time: Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at 10 a.m.

Location: 608 Dirksen Senate office Building

Description: Sen. Chuck Grassley is the sponsor of a comprehensive bill that would improve the health services available to children with multiple medical needs and ease the financial hardships of their families. He and Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) introduced the Family Opportunity Act of 2000 in March. The bill would allow states to offer Medicaid to families of children with disabilities. The measure has 51 co-sponsors, both Republican and Democrat, and the support of children's health advocates nationwide.

Grassley, a senior member of the Budget Committee, will preside over a Budget Committee hearing examining the bill. Witnesses will explain how the bill would benefit thousands of families nationwide who must turn down job promotions and pay raises to keep their children eligible for much-needed Medicaid.

Note: A witness list will be released later.
