Certification Decisions by President Clinton
Senator Chuck Grassley today issued the following statement regarding President Clinton's decision to decertify Colombia and to fully certify Mexico.<P> "President Clinton made two very difficult decisions today. He decided to continue full decertification of Colombia, and granted full certification to Mexico as a cooperating ally in the war against drugs. I regret that Colombia hasn't made measurable progress toward certification as a reliable partner in this fight. I agree with the President's decision on Mexico. But I want to make it clear that we must see significant progress from the Mexican government in the next year. We share a common border, and we must be able to count on Mexico as a partner in the war against drugs."<P>Grassley serves as chairman of the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control.
