Grassley Stands Up to Obstruction of Kavanaugh’s Nomination

The Des Moines Register

By Drew Klein

In nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Donald Trump could have hardly picked a better nominee. With more than 12 years of experience serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Kavanaugh has distinguished himself as a brilliant jurist who respects the Constitution and the rule of law.

Unfortunately, his nomination has unleashed a fury of partisanship, hysteria and obstructionism that threatens to deprive the American people of a qualified and capable jurist to serve on the high court.

To ensure that this ugly brand of partisan politics doesn’t prevail, Iowa’s longest-serving senator, Sen. Chuck Grassley, must use his perch as the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee to fairly and expeditiously shepherd President Trump’s nominee.

The people of Iowa, and all Americans, deserve better than partisanship that makes a mockery of our institutions. Grassley can help ensure this does not happen.
