Disturbed by the incidents surrounding the dismissal of army Gen. Jesus Gutierrez Rebollo, Sen. Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, issued the following statement. A senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley also serves as chairman of the International Narcotics Control Caucus.<P> "The dismissal and criminal investigation of Gen. Gutierrez underscores a pattern of corruption crippling the Mexican government's ability to cooperate in the war on drugs. Clearly, this type of corruption has penetrated the most sensitive levels of the Mexican government. This latest incident raises serious questions about the reliability of one of our main partners in the war against drugs. At the same time, I'm pleased the Mexican government took such swift action just prior to the final decision on certification."
