WASHINGTON – The city of Dubuque will receive $2 million in federal funding to develop an open Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) interface, technology that will disseminate near-real time transportation information to the region. C-V2X can detect obscured hazards, alert drivers to potential collision trajectories and reduce traffic congestion. The grant will be administered through the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Program, which was authorized in the Grassley-backed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
“Having real-time transportation information will make our roads safer and more efficient. I applaud the city of Dubuque for its work to upgrade local transportation options and services,” Grassley said. “I’m glad to see the bipartisan infrastructure law continue to benefit Iowa communities and support their modernization initiatives.”
Grassley this week met with members of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce during its annual Capitol Hill fly-in. Click HERE for a downloadable photo.
Background:
C-V2X is a communication technology that allows vehicles to understand and react to their environment in real time. By leveraging existing mobile networks, it enables vehicles to communicate directly with other vehicles (V2V), roadside infrastructure (V2I) and vulnerable road users (V2P), such as pedestrians and cyclists.
