Grassley Announces $10 Million for Housing Assistance in Iowa

? Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released $10,408,898 in funds to five communities in Iowa. The funding will be used for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships, and Emergency Shelter Grants.

"Public housing in Iowa needs to meet basic standards and these federal funds will help these communities improve and grow with better housing and modernized services," Grassley said.

Community Development Block Grants are given to cities to implement a wide variety of community and economic development activities directed toward neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and the provision of improved community facilities and services.

HOME Investment Partnership programs are used for housing, rehabilitation, tenant-based rental assistance, assistance to homebuyers, acquisition of housing and new construction of housing. Funds can also be used for other necessary, reasonable activities.

Emergency Shelter Grants are used for renovation or conversion of buildings for use as shelters for the homeless; provision of essential services to the homeless; payment of operations, maintenance, rent, repair, security, fuel, equipment, insurance, utilities, and furnishings; or homeless prevention activities.
