The money comes from Section 8 Incremental Fair Share Voucher Funding. The vouchers assist low-income families in obtaining decent, safe and affordable rental housing.
Under Section 8 assistance, public housing agencies receive federal funds and then locally administer the rental voucher program. Families receiving the vouchers are responsible for selecting a suitable rental unit that meets specified health and safety standards. The family pays the difference between the rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized through the voucher. "It is vitally important that Iowans have access to housing that is affordable," said Grassley. "Decent, safe and sanitary housing builds better families and stronger communities."
