WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded nearly $100,000 to the communities of Volga, Russell and Cincinnati through the Community Facility Grant Program.
Volga will receive a grant of $75,000 to help purchase a fire truck and protective gear for the fire department.
Russell will receive a grant of $11,250 to help purchase a new siren that can be integrated into the emergency response system.
Cincinnati will receive a grant of $6,000 to help purchase and install an emergency generator for the Community Center/Shelter.
“The funds announced today will allow these small communities to purchase emergency equipment that will help protect their citizens in times of danger,” Grassley said.
According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
