The funding is designed to help state and local governments acquire and develop quality outdoor recreation areas. The money comes from the Land & Water Conservation Fund.
"Iowa's public parks offer visitors a wide array of scenic views and exciting activities," Grassley said. "I'm happy that the funding will preserve these recreation areas so that Iowans can enjoy them for years to come."
Following is a list of the projects that received funding:
$247,078 to Viking Lake State Park ? near Stanton
Acquisition of 120 acres and the construction of a beach concession facility and support facilities, picnic areas, trails, hunting and a natural area.
$45,000 to Three Mile Lake ? Creston
Construction of an enclosed shelter/education center and associated infrastructure, including access road, parking, utilities, landscaping and wastewater system.
$100,000 to Cook Park Skate Park ? Sioux CityDesign and Construction of a 14,000-square foot concrete skate park structure with ramps, rails, steps, a snake run and a bowl.
$52,000 to Musser Park, National American Heritage Discovery Trail ? Muscatine
Construction of a restroom and accessible trail through Musser Park and three litter/rest stops along the National American Heritage Discovery Trail.
$49,578 to Riprow Valley Restoration ? Dubuque
Acquisition of 18 acres of land (Klauer property) adjacent to the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for future recreation and open space.
