Grassley Comments on Flag Amendment


Senator Chuck Grassley issued the following comment regarding the Constitutional amendment to protect the flag, which failed to pass the Senate floor today by a vote of 63 to 37. A two-thirds majority of 67 votes is needed to amend the Constitution.

"I have always supported the amendment and will continue to support the amendment. We will keep trying to pass the amendment until we get it. The flag is a symbol of our country and we need to protect it out of respect for our veterans who have died protecting the flag and freedom that it represents. We owe it to them."
