Sen. Chuck Grassley today made the following statement after learning that the Advisory Board meeting in Cedar Rapids recommended the former Iowa Army Ammunition Plant workers for a Special Exposure Cohort. The Board’s decision now will be considered by the Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt.
Grassley yesterday made a statement to the Board expressing serious concern that four and one-half years had passed with no compensation awarded to the former workers at the IAAP. Grassley now intends to express his strong support for the Board’s recommendation and encourage Secretary Leavitt to take quick action.
Here is Grassley’s statement.
"Today’s good news shows the Advisory Board’s clear intent to add these patriotic workers to a Special Exposure Cohort. It reaffirms that their original position was the right one. There’s just too little data to do the work that needed to be done to reconstruct the doses."
