WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), president pro tempore emeritus of the U.S. Senate, released the following statement congratulating the Storm Lake Police Department after the law enforcement agency was
presented with the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Freedom Award. This is the highest U.S. government honor awarded to employers that support the National Guard and Reserve.
“Congratulations to the Storm Lake Police Department for receiving the DOD’s Freedom Award, a prestigious recognition of the outstanding support they show for officers who also serve in the National Guard and Reserve. On behalf of a grateful state and nation, thank you to all Storm Lake police officers and service members who make untold sacrifices to help their community and to defend freedom, peace and prosperity for all,” Grassley said.
The Storm Lake Police Department was one of only 15 private and public sector employers to receive the 2022 Freedom Award. The award is reserved for employers that go the extra mile to support employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve, including through pre- and post-deployment support. Beginning in 1996, this is the 26th year the Freedom Award has been awarded, with 325 honorees to date.
