Grassley, Factory Leaders to Rally for Job-Saving Grassley Legislation
Event: Press conference, rally
Date/time: Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at 11 a.m. Central Standard Time
Location: John Deere Des Moines Works, 825 SW Irvinedale Drive, Ankeny
Description: Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of Committee on Finance with jurisdiction over taxes and trade, will return to Washington, D.C., later this month to work for congressional approval of his legislation to cut taxes for U.S. factories, sole proprietors, partnerships, farmers and small business owners who create jobs, and to reform and simplify international taxes for U.S. companies operating overseas. The legislation is meant to head off billions of dollars of trade sanctions from Europe that almost surely would force U.S. factories and agricultural producers to slice jobs.
Senator Grassley will describe the outlook for this legislation and its value in saving jobs and creating new jobs in Iowa. Joining Senator Grassley will be David T. Rodger, general manager, John Deere Des Moines Works, and Charles Sukup, representing Sukup Manufacturing Company of Sheffield, a small manufacturer of agricultural equipment. These business leaders will describe the unprecedented competitive pressures on U.S. businesses in an era of expanding global markets and the need for bills like Grassley's to increase the ability of U.S.-based operations to compete with foreign competition abroad and on U.S. soil, thereby creating job opportunities for Iowans and other American workers.
