WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded a $1,393,190 grant to the Iowa Department of Justice in Des Moines through the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program.
The Iowa Department of Justice will allocate no less than 30 percent of the funds to nonprofit, nongovernmental victim services programs; no less than 25 percent of the funds to law enforcement; no less than 25 percent of the funds to prosecution; and no less than 5 percent of the funds to courts. The remaining 15 percent of the funds is at the discretion of the Iowa Department of Justice.
“These funds will help the community services programs, law enforcement and courts work cohesively in their efforts to reduce crimes of violence against women,” Grassley said.
The STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program encourages the development and implementation of effective, victim-centered law enforcement, prosecution, and court strategies to address violent crimes against women and the development and enhancement of victim services in cases involving violent crimes against women.
