Grassley Nominates Iowans for Federal Judgeship

? Sen. Chuck Grassley today announced his recommendations to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

Grassley has recommended four individuals for District Judge in Iowa's northern district. They are: Iowa Appeals Court Judge Terry L. Huitink of Ireton, U.S. District Magistrate Judge John A. Jarvey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa District Judge Linda R. Reade of Urbandale and Iowa District Judge David M. Remley of Anamosa.

"I have great confidence that any of these individuals would make a superb addition to the bench," Grassley said. "Each candidate has extensive experience and is fully qualified to serve as U.S. District Judge for the Northern District."

According to Grassley, President Bush will forward one name for the judgeship to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a confirmation hearing.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District has two district judges. A spot on the bench became available when Judge Michael Melloy was confirmed by the Senate for a judgeship on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Grassley said that the White House will determine the time frame for the president's announcement and confirmation proceedings in the Senate will follow. "As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will do all I can to expedite the process," he said.
