Joining Sen. Bob Kerrey, of Nebraska, and Rep. Rob Portman, of Ohio, to co-host a Des Moines field hearing for the National Commission on Restructuring the IRS, Sen. Chuck Grassley today released a scheduled list of witnesses for the nonpartisan forum on Monday, May 12, from 10 a.m.?noon, in the Mini Lecture Hall, room 126, at the Des Moines Area Community College, 1100 7th St., in Des Moines.

Convened last year, the 17-member Commission has held more than a dozen hearings and heard testimony from hundreds of taxpayers, tax practitioners, accountants, IRS investigators, and others to find ways to improve customer service at the federal tax collecting agency.

"This field hearing gives Iowa taxpayers an opportunity to voice their concerns and any problems they have with the IRS," said Grassley. "We're coming to Des Moines to gain insight from the grassroots. I encourage local residents to attend and help make representative government work."

Authorized for one-year, the Commission this summer plans to report the results of its review to Congress, along with recommendations for restructuring the agency. For more information, contact Grassley's Des Moines office, at 515/284-4890.
