WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley is seeking an update on federal agency efforts to ensure the hospice industry meets Medicare requirements, citing investigative media reports, agency watchdog reports, and a False Claims Act case alleging problems such as the enrollment of Medicare beneficiaries in hospice care who are ineligible, resulting in fraudulent billing against the taxpayers.

“In order to better understand ongoing efforts to ensure the hospice industry meets Medicare requirements, I request that you make knowledgeable officials available to brief my staff on these issues,” Grassley wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General Daniel Levinson.

Grassley’s letter is available here.
