Grassley: Sioux City Receives Funds to Help Rehabilitate former Morrell Site

New Hartford – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that a $2 million competitive grant has been awarded to Sioux City to help with the redevelopment of the John Morrell processing site.  The grant is from the Economic Development Administration, an agency in the U.S. Department of Commerce.

“Sioux City will benefit from this support.  The community has been working to redevelop this area since the Morrell plant closed more than a year ago, so today’s news is a welcome development for the city,” Grassley said.

According to the Economic Development Administration, the former John Morrell processing site will be redeveloped to accommodate the new 65,000 sq. ft. Global Foods Processing, Inc., production facility.  The funding will support demolition of existing buildings; improvements to access road, sewer and utility infrastructure; and the construction of a cold storage facility.
