Grassley's July 23 tour of Mason City will begin at 12:30 p.m., from the Police Department at 78 South Georgia. Grassley will visit Charles City to view damage mid-afternoon. Finally, Grassley will arrive at the County Courthouse in Waverly for a local tour beginning at 5:30 p.m.
"The damage this year is reminiscent, and even worse in some places, of the flood damage we had in Iowa in 1993," Grassley said. "I will continue working closely with local and state disaster officials to help ensure a rapid federal response. It's not always possible to carry enough insurance to cover the terrible devastation from these storms. We must be sure that the federal government is there to help both individuals and communities in this time of need."
Earlier this week, Grassley endorsed the appeal made by Gov. Tom Vilsack for federal emergency funds for damage sustained July 2 in Woodbury, Black Hawk, Butler, and Jones counties. President Bill Clinton declared those counties eligible for disaster assistance yesterday.
