Grassley Welcomes FEMA’s Decision on Appeal on Disaster Assistance in Northwest Iowa

Sen. Chuck Grassley today welcomed the decision of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reverse an earlier denial of disaster assistance to three rural electric cooperatives and one municipal utility in northwest Iowa.   Grassley helped the state of Iowa with its application for disaster assistance and the subsequent appeal through letters and other communications to FEMA.   An April 2013 ice storm caused millions of dollars in damage to electrical utility lines in five Iowa counties: Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux.  Grassley made the following comment on the decision.

“It’s good news that the state of Iowa prevailed and that FEMA ultimately listened to the state’s case for disaster help.  FEMA exists to help communities recover from ice storms and other disasters.  I’m glad to help wherever I can to make sure Iowans are heard at federal agencies.”
