"Adopt an Iowa Soldier" allows Iowans to show support to U.S. troops by sending messages and care packages to their 'adopted' soldiers.
"I'm grateful for the enormous sacrifice made by the men and women and their families serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Liberty Shield and couldn't be more honored by their commitment to freedom," Grassley said. "I hope Iowans will remember those serving our country who are separated from their loved ones."
Due to security restrictions, the Defense Department will not release the names of individual service members. In order to match Iowans with those in the military, Grassley is urging Iowa families with loved ones serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Liberty Shield to contact his office with the names of those service members. Grassley's office will match service members with Iowans interested in sending care packages and words of encouragement as names become available.
"Iowans are known for their desire to help others and give support in times of need," Grassley said. "Until these brave and courageous Iowans return home safely, I hope we all help to make their time away from family and friends go quickly."
Iowans with a loved one serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Liberty Shield or those wishing to adopt a soldier can contact Grassley's office via his website at http://grassley.senate.gov or telephone 202/224-3744.
