International Trade Commission Identifies Imported Goods Needed to Fight Pandemic

 

Washington – Following a request from Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.), the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) conducted an expedited fact-finding mission to identify imported products that may be needed to respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Grassley and Neal requested the ITC produce a report detailing source countries, tariff classifications and applicable rates of duty associated with the products to assist the committees and the office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) in their work to combat the coronavirus emergency. “This report is excellent work by the ITC to centralize trade-related information on products that may be needed to respond to the ongoing pandemic. It will help inform policymaking both in Congress and in the Administration. I appreciate the speed of the ITC’s work, especially when every moment is critical during this public health and economic crisis. This report isn’t a final, conclusive list of products, so I’m glad the ITC has agreed to provide updates to the public. We’ll continue to study the impact of tariffs and trade policy generally on the American and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Grassley said.

 

In its executive summary, the ITC noted that it will post any relevant updated data runs on its website until June 30, 2020.
