WASHINGTON – United States Senators Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, tomorrow will participate in a town hall event on the Intersection of Foster Care and Education, hosted by Fostering Media Connections and Harvard University Law School Child Advocacy Program. The senators will give opening remarks from Washington, D.C., via satellite about congressional efforts to find solutions to the challenges affecting foster youth in obtaining a quality education. Sen. Landrieu will be streaming the event live on her facebook page and website. Sen. Grassley will also stream the event on his facebook page and make the stream available with a link @chuckgrassley on twitter.
The program is part of National Foster Care Awareness Month and will feature excerpts from Participant Media’s acclaimed documentary “Waiting for Superman,” as part of the film’s social action campaign.
Other participants include: Martha Minow, dean of the Faculty of Law, Harvard Law School; Mitchell Chester, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Victoria Rowell, former foster youth, actress and best-selling author; Gail Garinger, child advocate of the commonwealth; Lily Eagle Dorman Colby, former foster youth, Yale alumna and J.D. Candidate at Berkeley Law.
