Lawmakers Call for HHS Secretary Sebelius to Meet With Keokuk Area Hospital Representatives
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-IA) and Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) today urged U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to meet with representatives from the Keokuk Area Hospital to discuss the hospital’s financial situation. In a letter, the three wrote to encourage HHS to meet with Keokuk Area Hospital to discuss the possibility of the hospital obtaining a critical access waiver and other assistance that may be available to keep the hospital open. In recent years, the hospital has adjusted to its changing financial circumstances, but remains in need of assistance.
“Along with KAH administrators and local residents, we are very concerned about the repercussions should Keokuk Area Hospital shut its doors,” the lawmakers wrote to Sebelius. “KAH administrators are hoping to meet with you or your senior staff to discuss the possibility of obtaining a critical access waiver as well as any other options KAH may have for improving their financial situation.”
