WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded a loan guarantee of $19,094,000 and a grant of $800 to Iowa communities through the Community Facility Guaranteed Loan and Grant Program.
"These loan guarantees and grants will help provide greater access to health care and help promote public safety for residents of these rural communities," Grassley said.
The Office of Rural Development will distribute the money as shown below.
· Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison will receive a $19,094,000 loan guarantee to help construct a replacement 25 bed critical access hospital. The new hospital will be located 1.9 miles northwest of the current facility on a 40.5 acre parcel of land in Denison. Crawford County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.
· Pocahontas will receive an $800 grant to help purchase police equipment.
The Community Facilities Guaranteed Loan Program provides government-backed credit enhancement to private lenders seeking to finance community-based public facilities.
The Community Facility Grant program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.
