WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded seven competitive grants totaling $3,709,208 to Iowa.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will distribute the money as shown below.
• Iowa State University in Ames will receive $1,485,000 for health care and other facilities, from the Division of Grants Operations Management
• Delta Dental of Iowa in Ankeny will receive $148,500 for rural health outreach, from the Division of Grants Operations Management
• The Iowa Department of Human Services in Des Moines will receive $208,241 for support to refugee children and their parents as they adjust to American schools, from the Office of Refugee Resettlement
• The Iowa Department of Public Health in Des Moines will receive $664,928 for drug assistance programs, from the Division of Grants Operations Management
• The Iowa Department of Public Health in Des Moines will receive $37,181 for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program, from the Division of Grants Operations Management
• The Iowa Healthcare Collaborative in Des Moines will receive $742,500 for rural health outreach, from the Division of Grants Operations Management
• The University of Iowa in Iowa City will receive $422,858 for molecular genetics of age related macular degeneration research, from the National Eye Institute
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
