Nearly $1 Million to Iowa from Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration has awarded a $925,700 grant to the Midwest Transportation Consortium at Iowa State University.

According to the Department of Transportation, the Midwest Transportation Consortium will use the funds to make rural infrastructure improvements and use data management systems to reduce the number and severity of crashes.

“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of Iowa’s rural roads,” Grassley said.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
