Nearly $2 Million to Des Moines International Airport

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a $1,900,000 grant to the Des Moines International Airport.

According to the Department of Transportation, the Des Moines airport will use the funds to rehabilitate the taxiway to increase safety.

“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of the airport, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities for the surrounding communities,” Grassley said.

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
