Nearly $600,000 to Iowa from Department of Health and Human Services

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded three grants totaling $599,847 to Iowa projects.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will distribute the money as shown below.

• The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will receive $250,000 from the Food and Drug Administration for a food safety and BSE/Ruminant feed ban support project

• The Iowa State Department of Public Health will receive $300,000 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for a stillbirth surveillance project

• Iowa State University will receive $49,847 from the Food and Drug Administration for a project dealing with estrus implantation in goats

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
