WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is today calling on the Biden administration to once again issue an emergency extension of the Reid vapor pressure waiver for this summer, which would allow the sale of higher ethanol blend fuels between June 1 and September 15. Grassley’s letter to the president comes on the anniversary of President Biden’s visit to an Iowa biofuels production facility, where he previously announced this kind of waiver in 2022.

“I write today to urge you to once again issue an emergency waiver to allow for the summertime sale of E15…” Grassley wrote.

In his letter to President Biden, Grassley highlights both the cost benefits to consumers and the mitigating effects of using American-made ethanol when OPEC is cutting production and Russia continues to wage its unwarranted war on Ukraine.

“Recent reports show that the national average for E15 is $0.16 cheaper per gallon than gasoline. This would lead to hundreds of dollars in savings for American families and will come at no cost to federal taxpayers,” Grassley noted.

Grassley made a similar call last year ahead of Biden’s visit to Iowa to help bring down fuel costs and support American farmers.
