Crossing the Finish Line
This month I’m finishing my annual effort to hold a constituent meeting in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. I’ve done this every year since Iowans first elected me to the United States Senate.
These meetings give me a chance to talk face-to-face with Iowans on any topic. I go to them to respond to questions and listen to what they have to say. In turn, Iowans do their part by speaking up and participating in the discussion.
I’m completing this year’s meetings a little later than originally planned because the congressional break that was supposed to be held over the Fourth of July holiday was cancelled. So, from August 29 to September 1, I’ll be
holding town hall meetings in
Carroll,
Denison,
Harlan,
Oakland,
Red Oak,
Atlantic,
Onawa,
Missouri Valley,
Glenwood,
Sidney,
Shenandoah,
Bedford,
Corning and
Audubon. Three of the meetings (Atlantic, Oakland, Red Oak) will focus on agricultural issues in light of the upcoming farm bill debate (I’ll take questions on any subject, though).
The dialogue I have with Iowans through these meetings, along with other ways of keeping in touch, is essential to making representative government work. In addition to regular meetings in Iowa, I work to respond to every constituent letter, email and phone call. I also communicate with people through Facebook (
facebook.com/grassley), Twitter (
@ChuckGrassley) and at my website,
http://grassley.senate.gov.
I appreciate the commitment of Iowans to helping make the two-way process of communication work, and I look forward to seeing everybody soon at one of my annual meetings in your county or the many meetings I have across the state each year.
