Fellowships Available in Senator Grassley’s State Offices

Veterans can face challenges reintegrating into society after leaving military service. Senator Grassley recognizes their civic-minded call to duty continues long after their tour of duty ends. In 2015, he made available fellowship opportunities in his state offices to strengthen his efforts to better serve Iowa veterans by tapping into the expertise and experience of those who have served our country in uniform. Since then, veterans fellows have served in Senator Grassley’s state offices in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. The fellows serve as a liaison with the veterans community in Iowa during the term of the fellowship and as community outreach officers between Iowa veterans and the senator's office.

The fellows foster relationships with local employers, veterans and veterans service organizations on the senator's behalf, including with County Veterans Service Officers, the National Guard, the US Army Reserve, the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and the federal Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics across the state. Likewise, the fellows have the opportunity to learn more about working in Senator Grassley’s state offices, as they assist with constituent correspondence and casework. Senator Grassley appreciates the experiences and expertise that returning service members offer to help identify needs and challenges that veterans face integrating back into their communities and resolving issues with federal agencies.
