$100,000 to Iowa Utilities Board from the U.S. Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration has awarded a $100,000 competitive grant to the Iowa Utilities Board in Des Moines through the 2010 State Damage Prevention Assistance Grant Program.

“These funds will help the Iowa Utilities Board produce educational and training materials,” Grassley said.

The Iowa Utilities Board will use the funds to help produce an interactive training DVD and host an educational Iowa Excavation Safety Summit.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
