$120,979 to Iowa State University

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $120,979 competitive grant to Iowa State University through the Child Care Program.

The school will use the money to help fund the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program.  According to the Department of Education, the purpose of the program is to support the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education through the provision of campus-based child care services.

“This program is intended to increase low-income parents’ access to education, which can improve not only their lives, but the lives of their children,” Grassley said.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
