$125,000 to Iowa Department of Education

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $125,000 grant to the Iowa Department of Education.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Iowa Department of Education will use the funds to establish a multi-agency statewide plan for creating safe, healthy, and caring learning environments to prevent substance use and violence; establish a process to support schools in the implementation of a continuous improvement process to analyze data to identify appropriate and effective interventions for substance use and violence; and establish a training and communication plan to support statewide infrastructure and support.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
