$150,000 to Photon Energy Technology from the National Science Foundation

WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the National Science Foundation has awarded a $150,000 competitive grant to Photon Energy Technology in Ames through the Small Business Innovation Research program.

Photon Energy Technology will use the money to help pay for a research project titled, “SBIR Phase I: Nanotechnology – Nanotexturing of Stents for Improved Performance.”

According to the National Science Foundation, the Small Business Innovation Research program provides funding to eligible small businesses to support high quality projects on important scientific, engineering, or science/engineering education problems and opportunities that could lead to significant commercial and public benefit if the research is successful.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
