$243,405.15 to Iowa from USDA

WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is awarding $243,405.15 to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship through the ‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food’ initiative.

“As more consumers are generations away from living on a farm, it’s important that they still know where their food comes from,” Grassley said. “These funds will help connect local, fresh food from farmers with consumers looking for healthy food alternatives.”

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the ‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food’ initiative emphasizes the need for a fundamental and critical reconnection between producers and consumers.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
