WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded two grants totaling $300,000 to Drake University and the University of Iowa through the Rehabilitation Long-Term Training program.
"These funds will help masters and PhD students at Drake University and the University of Iowa earn their degrees in rehabilitation," Grassley said.
· $150,000 to Drake University to help provide an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling to students who plan to work for the state-federal rehabilitation program in RSA Region VII.
· $150,000 to the University of Iowa to help the University of Iowa Rehabilitation Counselor Education program train PhD students to be qualified personnel in state and federal vocational rehabilitation programs.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Rehabilitation Long-Term Training program provides financial assistance for projects that provide basic or advanced training leading to an academic degree in areas of personnel shortages, provide a specified series of courses or study leading to award of a certificate in areas of personnel shortages, or provide support for medical residents enrolled in residency training programs in the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
