WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration has awarded a $348,679 competitive grant to Iowa Emergency Management Division.
“These funds will help train first responders with safe ways to deal with new hazardous chemicals and alternative energy products like ethanol,” Grassley said.
Iowa Emergency Management Division will use the funds to help improve the Iowa’s response to transportation incidents involving hazardous materials.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
