$369,537 to Iowa State University

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University has received two competitive grants totaling $369,537 from the National Science Foundation.

The university will use $219,537 to fund a project entitled, “Development of a Sub-Diffraction-Limited Microscope with Molecular Resolution, Wavelength Tunability, and Picosecond Time Resolution for Research in Biophys., Chem., and Materials Sci.,” and $150,000 to fund a project entitled, “Collaborative Research: Jaws and backbone: Chondrichthyan Phylogeny and a Spine for the Vertebrate Tree of Life.”

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
