WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development is awarding competitive grants totaling $397,684 to Iowa through the Housing Preservation Grant program.
“These funds will help rural Iowans make energy efficiency improvements and repairs to their housing,” Grassley said.
The Office of Rural Development will distribute the funds as shown below.
•Ainsworth will receive $56,812 to help rehabilitate homes for energy efficiency of low-income families within the city limits.
•Region XII Council of Governments in Carroll will receive $56,812 to help 22 very low-income families eliminate health and safety hazards and increase energy conservation in their homes.
•Charles City Area Development Corporation in Charles City will receive $56,812 to help replace windows.
•South Central Iowa CAP, Inc. in Leon will receive $56,812 to assist at least seven very low-income homeowners.
•Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council in Sioux City will receive $56,812 to rehabilitate owner occupied housing in Cherokee, Ida, Monona, Plymouth and Woodbury counties.
•IOWA Northland Regional Council of Governments in Waterloo will receive $56,812 to help provide for very low-income homeowner assistance on repair or replacement of roofs, furnaces, water heaters, electrical and plumbing deficiencies and other housing essentials to improve energy efficiency.
•Fayette County Local Housing Trust Fund in West Union will receive $56,812 to help provide Energy Star qualified Low-E window and door replacements for very low-income homeowners and tenants.
The Housing Preservation Grant program provides funds to non-profit organizations and local governments, who in turn provide loans, grants or loan and grant combinations to eligible applicants to ensure that rural single and multi-family housing stocks are adequate, meet current safety standards and are accessible by individuals with disabilities.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
