$400,000 to Iowa State University from the National Science Foundation

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University has received a $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

According to the National Science Foundation, the university will use the money to fund the project entitled, “CAREER: Ultrafast Time/Frequency Domain Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy for Combustion and Plasma Systems,” which will advance the detailed understanding of gas-phase chemistry, which is important for meeting current and future challenges in clean energy and manufacturing.

The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
